Endowment gift from Judy and Bill Heald

We are deeply honored to announce a generous $25,000 endowment gift from Judy and Bill Heald to the Village Youth Fund. This gift will establish the Mike O’Connor Scholarship, honoring their cherished friend and his lifelong commitment to education and mentorship.

Mike was a Vietnam War veteran and retired from Penn State University in 2012 as a Professor Emeritus of Dairy Science. After his retirement, he served as Secretary of the PA Dairyman Association and was an active member of the State College Kiwanis Club, where he chaired the Holiday Basketball Tourney and Scholarship Committee. He was known for his warmth and kindness, and was surrounded by a wide circle of friends and family who admired his generosity and wisdom.

Mike dedicated his life to sharing knowledge with people of all ages and backgrounds. Although he passed when the Village Youth Fund was still in the process of being created, he would most assuredly approve. He knew Kate Ott from a young age, followed her track & field career closely, and would be proud of the work she continues in his spirit. Above all, Mike loved working with youth; taking joy in seeing them grow, learn life skills, and develop into confident and capable individuals.

We are deeply grateful to Judy and Bill Heald for their generosity and for choosing to honor Mike's memory through a lasting investment in young people. The scholarship will create opportunities for girls through education, mentorship, and personal development - ensuring Mike’s legacy lives on through the lives he inspired.
